Approval from your electric utility is required to connect to the grid. We advise that you get approval BEFORE purchasing ANY equipment. The utility is concerned about the capacity of their transformers and wires that make up the grid and that the system you are connecting meets all their safety requirements. There are two approvals needed, one before you start and one when you are done and ready to activate your system. Historically the first application has taken as little as a few days and as much as two months.
Each Utility has their own interconnect application. Most HAREI members will have Eversource as their electric utility. Eversource introduced and online system in late 2023 called PowerClerk. It requires significant information. Not to worry, the Electrical Design Tool HAEI has developed steps you through wat to enter in nearly every field. The technical information needed for the other utilities in NH, Unitil and Liberty. The Interconnect process/applications for each utility are:
Eversource has online system called PowerClerk. It can be found at New Hampshire Application to Connect | Eversource. You cannot complete the application without an electrical design. Once you have completed your electrical design using HAREI's Electrical Planning Tool, it will step you thru the process of filling out the online Eversource. application.
Liberty - The page with a description of Liberty's process including a link to application form and where to send it is here. You cannot complete the application without an electrical design. Once you have completed your electrical design using HAREI's Electrical Planning Tool, you will have most of the information needed to complete the application form.
Unitil has an online portal for their interconnect application. At this time, we do not have familiarity with Unitil's portal. We assume it is similar to Eversource's in terms of information required. You cannot complete the application without an electrical design. Once you have completed your electrical design using HAREI's Electrical Planning Tool, we expect you will have most of the information needed to complete the application form.
